- Significant excess weight.

What is BMI?
BMI, or Body Mass Index, is a simple indicator used to estimate the body composition of an adult. It takes into account two factors:
- The person's weight, expressed in kilograms (kg).
- The person's height, expressed in meters (m) squared.
BMI in women is calculated in the same way as for men, so you can rely on the same formula and the same results.
A high BMI is often associated with overweight and an increased risk of diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. You will therefore need to lose weight to preserve your health but also to feel better in your body.
At Cétofine 21, experts in medical dietetics, we will provide you with the solution to regain your ideal weight: the high-protein diet, an effective and permanent diet.
What should you do if your BMI indicates overweight or obesity?
The answer is: lose weight. Cétofine 21 offers an approach recommended by many doctors and nutritionists to help individuals with a high BMI lose weight safely and permanently.
The high-protein diet developed by Cétofine 21 is designed to offer you permanent weight loss. Composed of 4 phases, it allows you to lose weight quickly but also to stabilize it by adopting better eating habits.
By prioritizing high-quality proteins, this diet helps maintain muscle mass while burning fat. You will thus regain your ideal weight as well as a beautiful silhouette. The high-protein diet is suitable for weight loss of up to more than 30 kilos.
What are the health risks associated with a high BMI?
An excess weight, characterized by an excessive accumulation of body fat, significantly increases the risk of developing various health problems, including:
- Type 2 diabetes.
- High blood pressure.
- Increased cholesterol levels (hypercholesterolemia).
- Cardiovascular diseases.
- Certain types of cancer, such as colon, breast, uterine, esophageal, or kidney cancer.
- Osteoarthritis, particularly in the lower limbs such as knees and ankles.
- Fertility issues.
- Respiratory problems, including sleep apnea.
These risks highlight the importance of maintaining a healthy body weight to preserve long-term health.
How is BMI calculated?
BMI is calculated by dividing weight by height squared. Here's the formula: BMI = weight (kg) / height (m²)
For example:
-
For a person weighing 65 kilos and measuring 165 cm, the BMI is calculated as follows: BMI = 65 kg / (1.65 m)² = 65 kg / 2.72 m² = 23.89 kg/m²
-
For a person weighing 75 kilos and measuring 165 cm, the BMI = 75 kg / (1.65 m)² = 75 kg / 2.72 m² = 27.57 kg/m²
What are the limitations of BMI?
Although Body Mass Index (BMI) is widely used to assess body weight, it has limitations. BMI does not take into account certain factors.
The BMI calculator results are not reliable if:
- You are a pregnant or breastfeeding woman.
- You are very muscular, BMI does not take into account the distribution between fat mass and muscle mass.
- You have medical conditions that can influence your weight.
For example, it does not distinguish between muscle mass and fat mass. However, muscle mass, being denser than fat, can lead to high BMI values in very muscular individuals, even if they are healthy. Thus, an athletic person with a high level of muscle mass may have a high BMI while being in good health, which limits the accuracy of BMI.
You will need to take into account your body type and physical health to analyze the BMI results.
The specificities of BMI calculation for women
The BMI calculation does not take your gender into account. Indeed, whether you are a woman or a man, the calculation formula is the same. It is based on the ratio of weight to height squared, regardless of the person's gender.
However, the results may need to be interpreted differently if you are a woman. In women, BMI can be slightly influenced by:
- The menstrual cycle: BMI may be slightly higher during the premenstrual phase.
- Pregnancy: BMI naturally increases during pregnancy.
- Menopause: BMI tends to increase after menopause.
From menopause, typically between 50 and 60 years old, women often tend to gain weight. This weight gain can be partly attributed to hormonal changes that disrupt metabolism and lead to a decrease in calorie expenditure.
If you are not in any of these cases: you can interpret the results normally. If your BMI is above 25, it means you need to lose a few pounds. If your BMI is above 30, your health is at stake.
At Cetofine 21, we understand that weight loss is not just about appearance. Your health is our priority, and we recognize that behind every desire to lose weight, there are often deeper motivations related to overall health and well-being. Contact us to discuss this further.
